How and when to choose the right player...

In order to achieve goals people have to work very hard and that’s what fantasy football owners do. But do not get me wrong when I said “work very hard”, what I meant to say was that owners have to spend several hours doing their homework in order to accomplish their goal. Therefore, owners should have a good knowledge on how and when to choose the right player before, and during the season.

First, before the season starts owners should use a cheat sheet to prepare for the draft. A Cheat sheet will provide owners with a list of NFL players ranked in order of predicted fantasy points. Even thought, cheat sheets might not be 100% accurate, it is a huge help to use on draft day. Also owners should have a good knowledge of the rules of the league, system of scoring, and especially the basics of fantasy football. With these two tips owners are ready to choose their players.

In addition, during the season owners have to make sure to upgrade their lineups every week. This is one of the biggest mistakes owners can make and could end up being terrible, because they can have an injured player in their lineup or a player on a bye week. According to Brad Evan in “Are You Ready for Some Fantasy Football”, the author mentioned that owners’ biggest mistake is to draft a running back and a quarterback that have the same bye week. He also mentioned that in order to avoid these errors, owners should be very careful when drafting their player and also have a list of each NFL team’s bye week on draft day. Therefore, owners should keep an eye open for news and schedule; otherwise, it could cause them a game and also could be the difference between making or missing the playoffs.

Overall, there are several ways owners can win fantasy football and one of them is to know how and when to choose the right player. Owners should always plan ahead and be prepared on the draft day. For instance, use a cheat sheet from a trustful sport website and also know the basics of fantasy football. Moreover, owners should not forget to upgrade their lineups every week and check for injuries and bye weeks. These tips will lead owners to accomplish a great season and also lead them to place first in their league.

Josh Freeman...

Josh Freeman, a 21 year old Senior from Kansas State was the 17th pick in the first round of this year's draft. After been benched for nine weeks, Freeman made his first NFl appearance playin the Green Bay Packers last sunday. Freeman is a quarterback for Tampa Bay who led the Buccaneers to a 38-28 victory over the Green Bay Packers last Sunday. Freeman did a great job in this game; he hit 14 of 31 passes for 225 yards and throw three touch downs. Moreover, he set a record on becoming the youngest quarterback to open a game for the Buccaneers. Thanks to Freeman, the Buccaneers have plenty of reasons to be positive about the future…

You don't need to be an expert to play FF...

There are many people—especially women---that do not participate in fantasy football for few reasons. Many of them think that fantasy football is hard and some others think that it takes too much work. But what they don't know is that fantasy football is a very easy game to play and at the same time people can have fun with friends and family. Also, since fantasy football is getting popular there are many sports sites, TV shows and online shows that transmit helpful information to fans. Therefore, fantasy football is not as hard as people think it is.

Fantasy football is a fun game to play and a good opportunity to socialize with people. Therefore this game has become very popular. According to Colin Cowherd of ESPN:
“more than 27 million players play fantasy football. They spend an average of nine hours a week (during football season… playing fantasy football).”

Leagues are hosted online through Yahoo, ESPN and some other sports sites. In these sites people can find different types of leagues from very expensive and competitive to cheap or completely free. Furthermore, throughout the season owners are in charge of setting weekly lineups, proposing, accepting and rejecting trades, competing against other teams in the league, check for updates and news, and the hardest one, watch most of the football games on Sunday and Monday.

Here comes the easy part, before the season starts, fantasy football news experts give helpful information to fantasy football owners. They also looked at the last season most popular players to help fantasy owners decide on their future teams. Moreover, there are many ways owners can obtain helpful information and updates that will help them make good decisions on choosing the right players. For instance, ESPN offers weekly analysis on the SportCenter television show, feature articles in ESPN fantasy football magazine, online shows, and columns throughout the season.

In addition, the website does the entire math, add up scores, create schedules, manage the league draft and allow owners to interact on messages boards. What else could you ask for?

Overall, there are many sources that can help you survive throughout the season such as ESPN and Yahoo. Furthermore, it might seem hard and a lot of dedication to participate but when you are actually playing, you enjoy more watching football games on weekends. Therefore, fantasy football game is an easy game to participate and have fun with friends and family as well.

Disappointments and big scores…

The last straws for Steve Slaton (Houston Texas) last Sunday after one fumble at the beginning of the game versus the Buffalo Bills caused him to be benched by coach Gary Kubiak. Try to pick up Ryan Moats if he is not already taken because once he got on the game he got 126 yards and also had three touch downs and set a new team record for touchdowns in a game. For fantasy leagues he is a must-add!

Brett Favre played in the Green Bay Packers for a long time. About a year ago he was going to re-sign for the Packers again but instead the Packers decided to go for the younger quarterback. Since these events happend Favre was signed to the Vikings. Favre and the Vikings traveled to Favre’s hometown in Green Bay where he received a booing crowd but still manage to throw four touch downs and 244 yards. According to Yahoo Sports, this game was the second most watched Sunday football game on fox in history. Voice your opinion did Brett Favre deserved such a harsh homecoming?

What is Fantasy Football?

Is it the thing invented to magically make girlfriends invisible all day Sunday and Monday night? Or the attempt by all football fans to live vicariously through various NFL all-stars while proving their infinite knowledge of football to their friends and their undying dedication to the channel, sportscenter

I never thought of these questions until I started dating my boyfriend and was not able to understand his passion for watching every single football GAME and getting mad at different players that weren’t even on his FAVORITE team. Some of you may think I am a crazy woman because I did not know what my boyfriend’s actions were trying to say, but I guess in my own world football was just about my favorite team. I still remember what he said to me once, “How come you don’t know what fantasy football is? Are you crazy?” I know he did not mean to call me crazy in a bad way, but it was shocking for him to know that I had no idea of what fantasy football was. He tried to explain me several times, but I didn’t really pay much attention until I started this blog and I found myself forced to ask him once again the meaning of fantasy football. Moreover, his lectures about fantasy football extremely helped me; however, after putting my boyfriend through long hours of explanations I felt that I still needed to explore different points of view and definitions that would help me get a better picture of the whole game. Therefore, I decided to initiate my own research and I started asking co-workers (which was a HUGE help), friends (also a plus) and navigate online as well. When I found all the answers to my questions, I couldn’t believe how FUN and EASY this game was, therefore, I came up with a clear and easy explanation on how fantasy football works and what exactly it is.

Fantasy Football begins with either an online or live draft in which fantasy owners (people that select football players to create a team) take turns in selecting different players of various positions for their teams. The draft consists of 15 rounds including the following positions; a quarter back, two wide receivers, two running backs, one tide end, one defense, a kicker, and then you have an option to either put a wide receiver or running back. You also have six people who are your bench players that can be moved into one of the starting slots if an injury occurs or in the case of a bye week. Moreover, after all the owners got all their players they compete against each other week by week. NOW you may ask yourself “how the owner gain points or become a winner?” Well each position makes a certain amount of points by how many yards they run and if they score any touchdowns.

Furthermore, after a certain amount of games (about 13 to 14 regular season games) you get to the play offs. The play offs consists of anywhere from four to six of the best teams playing against each other. (Remember that this is the fantasy league play offs NOT the real football play offs). Finally, here is when elimination begins leading to a winner… During elimination only four teams fight for the first place and how this works it’s a simple process. First the best team out of the four teams plays the team that won the least games (if you think about it… the best team deserves some kind of benefit because is the team that won the most games. Therefore, this team gets to play the team that won the least games out of the four. In other words, this team gets to play the easiest team). Then the team that placed second plays the team that placed third. The winners of both games play each other and determine the winner….
